Michael was named President and Chief Executive Officer of Mercy Health Plans in
July 2004. He served as the Company’s Chief Operating Officer the previous 2
years following various operating roles within the organization, including Vice
President of Operations and Vice President of Government Programs, overseeing
the growth and development of the health plan’s Medicaid and Medicare
businesses. Prior to officially joining Mercy Health Plans in 1996, Michael
served Mercy Health Plans as a Management Consultant, providing support in a
variety of areas, and assisting with the negotiation of agreements with a variety of service providers during the startup period of the health plan.
From 1984 through 1992,
Michael founded, owned, and served as President & CEO of Managed
Prescription Services (MPS), a national Pharmacy Benefits Management company (PBM),
headquartered in St. Louis. MPS was
sold to Humana in 1992, and Michael left the company following an eighteen-month
transition period and began general management consulting primarily in the
Health Care Industry.
Michael was recently appointed to the State of Missouri's Health Care
Information Technology Task Force. Governor Matt Blunt created the task
force in early 2006 to seek out ways to use technology to improve Missourians'
access to health care.
Michael received his
Bachelors degree from St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 1979, and his MBA from Washington
University

1996.
